Freed Palestinian Advocate Sues Former President Trump for $20 Million

Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate and leading voice in pro-Palestinian activism, has filed a $20 million lawsuit against former President Donald Trump. Khalil’s activism, primarily focused on protesting the conflict in Gaza and advocating for Palestinian rights, led the Trump administration to label him a national security threat.

From Campus Activism to National Security Threat

Khalil gained prominence as a student leader at Columbia University, organizing and participating in protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza. These protests drew attention from the Trump administration, which subsequently designated him a security threat. This designation, Khalil alleges, significantly impacted his life and reputation.

Seeking Justice and $20 Million in Damages

Now, after being released from detention, Khalil is seeking redress through the courts. His lawsuit against Trump demands $20 million in damages, arguing that the “national security threat” label was unjustified and caused him significant harm. The case will likely explore the complexities of free speech, activism, and national security concerns in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
