CM Stalin Pushes for Thirukkural’s National Recognition, Denounces Cultural Appropriation

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has renewed the call to declare the Thirukkural a national book of India. During the release of a new commentary on the classic Tamil text by renowned lyricist Vairamuthu, the Chief Minister strongly condemned what he described as attempts to “saffronize” Thiruvalluvar, the author of the Thirukkural.

Stalin Criticizes Attempts to Saffronize Thiruvalluvar

Mr. Stalin argued that because Thiruvalluvar cannot be claimed by “Aryanism,” there have been efforts to link him with saffron ideology – a move he labeled as “cheating” and “cultural appropriation.” He emphasized the importance of preserving the true essence and secular nature of the Thirukkural, a work cherished for its universal wisdom and ethical guidance.
