CM Stalin Pushes for Thirukkural’s National Recognition, Denounces Cultural Appropriation
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has renewed the call to declare the Thirukkural a national book of India. During the release of a new commentary on the classic Tamil text by renowned lyricist Vairamuthu, the Chief Minister strongly condemned what he described as attempts to “saffronize” Thiruvalluvar, the author of the Thirukkural.

Mr. Stalin argued that because Thiruvalluvar cannot be claimed by “Aryanism,” there have been efforts to link him with saffron ideology – a move he labeled as “cheating” and “cultural appropriation.” He emphasized the importance of preserving the true essence and secular nature of the Thirukkural, a work cherished for its universal wisdom and ethical guidance.
New Commentary by Vairamuthu Launched
The event marked the launch of a fresh perspective on the Thirukkural through the commentary penned by Vairamuthu. This new edition is expected to offer contemporary insights into the timeless wisdom encapsulated within the ancient text.
