Dharavi Redevelopment Gets Green Light: Bombay HC Approves Salt Pan Land Transfer
In a significant decision impacting the ambitious Dharavi redevelopment project, the Bombay High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the transfer of salt pan lands. This move clears a major hurdle for the project, which aims to provide rental housing for residents of Dharavi, one of Asia’s largest slums.
Salt Pan Land Transfer Confirmed for Dharavi Residents’ Housing
The PIL, filed by lawyer Sagar Devre, contested the Maharashtra government’s decision to allocate the salt pan land parcels in Mulund, Kanjurmarg, and Bhandup to Adani for the construction of a rental housing scheme. The petitioner also challenged the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Office Memorandum (OM) that facilitated the land transfer.
Court Ruling Paves Way for Adani’s Rental Housing Project
The High Court’s dismissal of the PIL affirms the legality of the land transfer and allows the Adani-led project to move forward. The rental housing scheme is intended to provide eligible Dharavi residents with improved living conditions and a pathway to a better future.
