Virudhunagar Firecracker Units Under NGT Scrutiny

Concerns over safety and environmental compliance have prompted the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to order comprehensive inspections of firecracker manufacturing units in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. This move aims to ensure that these units adhere to strict safety protocols and minimize their environmental impact.

PESO and District Collector to Spearhead Inspections

The NGT has directed the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) and the Virudhunagar District Collector to form and lead inspection teams. These teams will meticulously assess each firecracker unit’s adherence to safety regulations and environmental norms.

Focus on Worker Safety and Environmental Protection

The inspections will focus on crucial aspects such as worker safety, proper handling of explosive materials, waste management practices, and air and water pollution levels. The NGT seeks to ensure a balance between the traditional firecracker industry and the well-being of both workers and the environment.
