Telangana Strengthens Commitment to PCPNDT Act with DMHO Training
In a significant move to uphold ethical pre-natal diagnostic practices and combat gender bias, the state of Telangana recently conducted training sessions for District Medical and Health Officers (DMHOs) across all 33 districts. This initiative reinforces the state’s dedication to the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act.
Empowering DMHOs for Effective Implementation
The comprehensive training program equipped DMHOs with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively enforce the PCPNDT Act within their respective districts. This crucial step aims to prevent the misuse of pre-natal diagnostic techniques for sex determination, a practice that contributes to female feticide and skewed child sex ratios.
Focusing on Prevention and Awareness
The training sessions emphasized the importance of raising public awareness about the provisions of the PCPNDT Act and the detrimental consequences of sex-selective abortions. By empowering DMHOs to lead these efforts at the district level, Telangana is working to create a more equitable society for future generations.
